The First Medical and Wellness Resort in Egypt: GAFI and Maxim Group Sign Its Contract
Mr. Hossam Heiba, CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), Mr. Walid Al-Rasheed, Chairman and Managing Director of Misr Investment Company for Development, and Mr. Mohamed Karrar, Chairman of Maxim Investment Group (MIG), signed a contract for the establishment of the first medical and wellness resort in Egypt, in the investment zone of Al-Saf Center in Giza Governorate.

According to the contract, Maxim Group will create, oversee, and run GAFI’s investment zone in the Al-Wadi sub-district, Al-Saf area, Giza Governorate, and transform it into the first medical and wellness resort in Egypt “Naya Spa”. It will be built on an area of 40 acres, at an expense of EGP 1.5 billion, to create more than 4,500 job opportunities once it is operational.
It is worth noting that this investment zone is distinguished by its unique architectural style, as it contains the villa of Al-Khawaja “Sornaga”, which dates back to 1940, and includes a Nile marina that allows movement to and from the zone, in addition to its distinguished geographical location, 65 KM south of Cairo on the road of Cairo-Upper Egypt.
Services and Activities this Resort Provides
The first medical and wellness resort in Egypt will provide integrated activities for all Egyptian and foreign visitors that will improve their physical and psychological health while adhering to the highest standards of service and hospitality. The resort will also include various medical clinics for comprehensive examination, medical laboratories, aesthetic clinics, hotels, restaurants, and other spaces designated for holding various events, occasions, and workshops.
Let’s not forget to mention that there will be various means of transportation available, ensuring a unique experience for visitors. It is also planned that the resort will benefit from the strategic location of the investment zone in providing river and land transportation services, in addition to providing amphibious aviation.

The goal of establishing the first medical and wellness resort in Egypt is that it will be a global destination for medical and wellness that integrates health care and hospitality services in one place. It will be the first of its kind to promote medical tourism in Egypt, which will have significant developmental impacts on the project area and the Egyptian economy and guarantee a sustainable foreign exchange income.
This resort is also considered a practical application of the State Ownership Policy Document that underlines the empowerment of the private sector, increasing its contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP) and implementing the state’s plan to develop investment in the health sector.
GAFI CEO’s Statement during Signing the Resort’s Contract
Mr. Hossam Heiba, CEO of GAFI, stated that establishing the first medical and wellness resort in Egypt is a successful model of partnership between the government and the private sector, declaring that GAFI will continue to cooperate with private sector institutions, whether through management, operations, and maintenance of the zones, promotion of investment opportunities, or other activities supporting the investment climate.

Mr. Walid Al-Rasheed, Chairman and Managing Director of Misr Investment Company for Development, confirmed that the craft activities in the first medical and wellness resort will play a major part in the businesses carried on at the Al-Saff investment zone. Such activities will benefit from the excellent handicrafts in Giza Governorate, a heritage passed down through generations, especially in Kerdasa and Harraniya villages. They will also benefit from the abundant skilled labor force and help promote the tourist destinations in the Giza Governorate.
For his part, Mr. Mohamed Karrar, Chairman of Maxim Investment Group (MIG), confirmed that the first medical and wellness resort in Egypt is the first of its kind in Egypt, as it includes many medical specialties and hosts leading doctors from many countries worldwide. This resort will also be a global destination for medical tourism, thus generating sustainable foreign exchange income in addition to employing hundreds of doctors and health sector workers.
He added that stated that the partnership between MIG and GAFI is an implementation of the strategy and vision of MIG towards diversification and continuous development in the MIG projects at all investment sectors, explaining that MIG is currently focusing on exploring various investment opportunities and venturing into new fields, which would help to enhance the investments of MIG in general, within the framework of MIG investment vision to build and develop a portfolio of diverse and sustainable strategic projects in hospitality, healthcare, real estate, and commercial development, with the aim of serving the community and providing various services to customers in a way that reflects MIG environmental, economic and social responsibilities.
